Macaroni and Cheese... from World War Era
I've been wanting to make a Mac and Cheese macaroni for a long time but could not find the right recipe.
Well, I think I have it now :)
In this post, you will see two Mac and Cheese dish.
I could not make my mind on which one to make, so I made both. Leave it to me... LOL.
Ingredients
Grated Cheese
Breadcrumbs
Macaroni
Pepper
Salt
Butter
If liked, flavour with mustard
The Prep...
Boil macaroni till tender. Drain and since under cold water to stop cooking.
Prep Method 1
Well grease shallow dish, sprinkle over breadcrumbs, grated cheese then place layer of mac.
Season with pepper and salt, and mustard. Cover with breadcrumbs and cheese.
Then another layer of macaroni, continue till [sic] dish is full enough, having a layer of breadcrumbs on top.
Place a piece of butter on the top, then bake in moderate oven until nicely brown.
Prep Method 2 - Sauce Method
Another way is to make white sauce by placing milk into saucepan. Bring to boil, add a thickening of flour, pepper, salt, and milk. Allow to boil for few minutes, then add grated cheese. Remove from heat and stir well.
Place boiled macaroni in greased baking dish, pour over sauce, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top.
Cook in moderate oven until nicely brown.
Compliments to Chef Aline!
