Dinner... the best part of the day – The French Cdn Way

Sometimes, it's hard to decide... what's for dinner??? Hopefully, some of these recipes will intice you to make a few good meals. Some are for summer, and some for winter. And then, you have the in-between. Hope you enjoy making them as much as I have.

Got this recipe from Dan. It is his mom's recipe. He makes them every Christmas and are delicious.

Got this recipe from Uncle Paul many moons ago.  I recall seeing him make them.

While I have not made them yet, they sure did look yummie.

Newly discovered recipe. It calls for a crock pot. I used a pot for the oven due to the amount I had.

This is now my preferred recipe.

Hubby started making this stew a couple years ago. It's so easy to make.

We normally double the recipe as this one calls for about 4 servings.

This recipe was given to me by Hélène many moons ago. Been using it ever since.

Excellent fall and winter homey meal.

While there are many Bolognese sauces to be had, I found this one on one of my preferred site being Bellalimento. She's a brilliant Italian cook... and she's actually Italian. Who knows best :)

This recipe has been in the family for over 50 years. Also known as "Pigs in the Blanket" or "Golumkies", I recently found out this is aunt Rita and uncle John's recipe. Uncle John is Polish, so who knows better than him :)

First time making. Won't be the last.

Hubby's recipe. When we first met, liver was not on my "eat" list... until he insisted I try his.  I am now converted!

Yummie the said night with fresh bread, and the next day as a sandwich. You can even mash it down to make a "almost" pâté.

Just made recently for a party.  Was a hit.  Unfortunately, as usual, I had multiple recipes on the go and chose a bit of this and a bit of that. Will try to remember as best as I can.

This recipe is from Fanny Farmer.  It is made with beef cubes and is very different from your typical chili.

I very often make this as comfort food.

A French-Québéquoise recipe recently acquired from my son-in-law's mother. Yummie is all I can say!

First Time making. Was very good and flavouful.

Truly yummie. Served over mashed potatoes.

I have various versions – it all depends on my mood and what I feel like having that night.

Make sure your ingredients are of good quality, especially in the cheese department.

This easy to  make chicken takes no time and is delicious. I think this will become a weekly meal.

Flavours are mainly fresh lemon, onion, and thyme.

I've been wanting to make a Mac and Cheese macaroni for a long time but could not find the right recipe.
Well, I think I have it now :)

Mom's recipe. A true comfort food dish. I played with this recipe for over 25 years.  The ingredient amounts are to perfection.

Recently found on Manu's Menu. Another brilliant Italian cook.

It was our Easter meal and very yummie. Will definitely make again.

This is aunt Cécile's recipe. Can't remember how many pies it makes, so make sure you have enough crusts on hand.

Made these over Christmas and will definitely make again. I found two recipes, adopted one, and applied to both recipes. One used puff pastry, and the other phyllo dough. Puff pastry is much easier to work with. Both are equally good.

One of my preferred winter meal... and of course, always served over polenta.

I never know which recipe I will make. It's always a bit of this recipe, and a bit of that recipe. To me, the ingredients will dictate the sauce.

This recipe was acquired from Italian Food Forever.

I have made it numerous times... yum!

I need my bucatini carbonara at least twice a month. So easy and yummie.

Made a bolognese sauce a couple weeks ago. Naturally, when you make it, it's not just for one meal. Froze some and made these shells with it.

We love polenta but found it too hard to make (stirring for 40 min.), until we found this recipes in the Ottawa Citizen by Russ Parsons.

It's easy to make as it's baked instead of cooked on the stove top.

It was heaven, and I believe that this is now our preferred method, only because it's so easy to make and darn good.

These are so tender you will not need a fork.

First time making, and will definitely make again. Got the recipe from Giada De Laurentis on the Food Network.

Acquired from Nadine.

Real picture coming soon.

This recipe comes from my cousin Alain.

Ever since I tasted them, it's pretty much the only stuffed tenderloin I make. They are delicious – you will want to make them often.

Acquired from Nadine, experienced it, and was delicious!

Yes, marmalade. Truly yummie.

This was our 2013 Thanksgiving Dinner.

A rolled pork roast, with onions, carrots, green beans, and mushrooms. Served with sweet potatoes (yams) and gravy on top.

Fabulous and easy to make disk – fit for a Queen. Your guests will think you slaved all day.

Always a favourite in this household.

Found this new recipe on Cook & Bake. When I read what the secret ingredient was, I was thinking... ya right, are you nuts???

Decided to try it... OH MY... that's it... my new found and "only" recipe I will ever make.

First time of making a turkey on the said day.

Since we normally make a traditional one for Christmas, I thought it would be fun to try a different recipe.

I found various recipes and decided to wing it.

I need my bucatini carbonara once or twice a month. So easy to make, and so delicious.

I don't fuss with cream and all those spices most recipes call for. It's pasta, eggs, bacon, and cheese. That's it!
